    I have a 1987 18 pound cast aluminum orbital polisher I got as part of a franchise.. was thinking the drive pad was 11 inch it looks as though this one would work.. any thoughts?

    Best Answer: By chance was the franchise tropic shield? That is about when we bought into a franchise and got our first orbital buffer (not a gem). It fits ours perfect.

    I have an orbital from early 1990's. How do you remove the old drive pad? Slowly tap it off?

    Best Answer: Yes slowly tap all the way around the drive pad and you will be able to rock it back and forth to get it off.

    Is this the pad also for the hook & loop sanding pads ?

    Best Answer: This pad is NOT for hook & loop sanding pads. This is for Gem's automotive polishers and holds the elastic bonnets meant for paint polishing.

    Best Answer: GEM does not offer the pad without the pan unfortunately.

    Is there a version of this with a hole in the center to attach to my buffer?

    Best Answer: I've never seen one this drive pad is for the gem orbital buffer it's 11" on the pad side and it has roughly 5 or 6" dish on the back side it is a metal dish I'd imagine you could make it work with minor alterations.

    the listing states that the inner diameter of the inside is 6 1/4" but one of the staff mentioned that the inner diameter is about 6 7/8"... I have an older polisher that is called an Orbit-1 (20+years old) that looks exactly like the Gem polisher and trying to find a drive pad for it with a diameter of about 6 7/8". Which size is this one?

    Best Answer: That appears to be a typo - it should say 6 3/4". The opening is tapered and at the most recessed point, it is 6 3/4", and at the edge it is 6 7/8".

    How is the drive pad mounted to the counter balance? I don't see a hole for the bolt

    Best Answer: This just sits on top of the counterweight and there is no hole to mount it.
