RUPES SpA was founded in Italy in 1947 with the purpose of creating polishing systems that offer solutions to finishing problems. This was not limited to the auto detailing industry, but automotive polishing is a huge part of their business.

Rupes introduced the world's first electric random orbital sander (the BR 8) in 1968, completely changing the world of sanding. After several other advancements over the next 40+ years, they came out with the BigFoot Polishing Systems which made their debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. The LHR21 and LHR15 "Long-Throw" polishers were their flagship models and it wasn't long before these automotive detailing polishers took the detailing world by storm.

Rupes designed and introduced an entire polishing system including not only the long throw polishers, but also pads and polishes made in-house, and produced specifically for use with the Rupes buffers.

By 2015, the Rupes Polishing System had become so popular that they acquired Cyclo Toolmakers in Colorado, and formed a new subsidiary - RUPES USA. This location became the North American headquarters for the brand, offering sales, customer service, technical, and repair support from the former Cyclo Toolmakers.

In 2016, Rupes introduced the first micro polisher with the ability to accept multiple types of polishing attachments, as well as run on both corded OR battery power. This same year, Rupes announced the production of the flagship LHR21 and LHR15 BigFoot Polisher tools at its US facility, being the first time that these tools were manufactured outside of Italy.

In 2021, a new state-of-the-art Rupes manufacturing facility was opened in Houston, TX. This facility is dedicated solely to the manufacturing of polishing pads and compounds for the North American market.

This solidified Rupes as a true full-system manufacturer and the only company with foam pad manufacturing operations on two continents.
